Home-made is just not what it used to be

Over the years, propaganda has won the elections, and this year does not seem to be much different. Both candidates fire shot after shot at each other, everything is fair game. They have so much money in their campaigns, they can pretty much buy as much as they want. But instead of buying the fancy sign. They get people to make signs that they feel are appropriate for the rally. My sister attended McCain's recent rally on Sunday and there, she was given a sign that was hand written and looked like she had made it. What the campaigns are trying to do is feel more at one with the people. When people are seen with a hand written, hand colored poster it makes it seem like he is very popular. It seems like a sporting event, people come with signs to show support for their favorite person or team. But McCain is not the only one guilt of this, wherever you go, any campaign does this. They try and make it seem like a grass roots campaign where the regular person shows up to show support. My sister has also seen Joe Biden speak, ( she lives in Ohio) and he also give a "hand made" poster for her too. The fact is that campaigns are grasping a straws trying to make them seem more likable. In my opinion this only make the campaigns more desperate.

Maybe 101 our lucky number

Once again the cubs never cease to amaze me. They play 162 games and finish with the best record in the NL, then they make it to the playoffs and wet themselves. They got swept, by the LA Dodgers. It is not the fact that the Dodgers are not good, they played great, it is just that we are better than them, and we just did not show it.
Our best players all hit under .200, accept for Derrek Lee. Alfonso Soriano went an abysmal 1-14 and struck out for the last out of the game. Dempster threw 7 walks in 4 innings and we gave up 20 runs, to our petite 5. We did not even show up to the playoffs. We might as well of just thrown beachballs and hit with toothpicks. It is just depressing to talk about.
We have now lost 9 straight playoff games including the fateful Bartman game; which I attended. Many blame these losses on the Billy goat, and others on Bartman, but you can't blame a game solely on Witchcraft or bad placement. What most people forget is that Alex Gonzalez booted the next hit ball that would of surely ended the inning. And that the Billy goat and his owner are dead so the so called curse should die with them. Watch this video for a more in depth history of the Billy Goat.
The point I am trying to make is that we cub fans pride ourselves in the fact that there is always next year. But what if the year we wait for never comes? My grandmother who is 80 years old has been a cub fan all her life and has not once ever seen them win a World Series. My dad of 48, who knows the Cubs and baseball in general like the back of his hand, says that the team this year was the best he has ever seen. Even better than the 1969 cubs, who famously blew a 7 game lead with only 25 games left.
Maybe next year will be our year, but for right now I will just mourn, what feels like a death, the cubs and their terrible, terrible, post season performance.

Big game players

The chicago bears are now 2-2 in there season. They seem to be ahead in all their games going into the fourth quarter, only to be caught by the opposing team. But not last night, and not their first game. The deciding factor seems to be John Madden. On Sunday night football the bears play their best, their defense is unbeatable, and their offense plays well enough that their defense can compensate. I don't understand why, the bears just seem to be to be a big game team. If you look at kyle orton's stats, they go up considerably during sunday night. Last night for instance, Orton threw for 3 touch downs, breaking his all time record. This seems a small feat after looking at Brett Favre throwing 6 touchdowns, twice as many as Orton. But it still shows me that now, we have a quarterback that we can count on, sometimes.

The second coming

As Many people know, the new seasons of many hit shows come out this week. What most people don't know is just how many of these new shows are just copies of previous shows in years past. The picture to the top of this text is a photo of the show called Knight Rider. This show will appear on this coming Wednesday, but what is interesting is that this show previously aired more than 20 years ago. Coincidently the old Knight Rider premiered only two days after the new one is set to premier, but 26 years earlier.
Another hit show that people watch now is American Gladiators. This show is also almost 20 years old. When I asked an parent about what they think about this new show, they responded, "I think it is funny that they bring this show back, because originally, most people thought that it was a joke. And that the networks would bring it back, is just showing that they are running out of ideas." In my opinion I believe that this person is right. I think that the networks are just losing their creativeness to create new shows. Either this, or there are just not enough ideas to make new shows. The problem is that many ideas have already been made. There is just not that much originality any more because when you think of an idea, someone just tells you that the idea is just to close to another previous idea. I dont blame the networks for their recreation of many of these shows, but if they are going to survive the next few decades, they need to bring in a few fresh minds.

I have a better GPA than Joe Biden

On this post I am going to talk about the presidential educations. But to back track a little to another candidate, Joe Biden. Do you know that he graduated college from University of Delaware. When he went there he was described as lazy from his professors. Not only this but he finished 506th out of 688 in his class. Next, lets talk about john Mccain. I know he did not finish high in his class. He actually finished very low. But he also went to the naval academy. At this college, he stood up for people being bullied. His professors described him as hard working and honorable, though they also said they trouble seemed to find him.
Many people just think that you have to have a Harvard degree to be president but really, in my opinion, all you need to have is common sense. And maybe a little knowledge on the country. But all the talk of needing to go to an elite school is just garbage. Many people are just as smart as a Harvard Grad, and they went to community college. The fact is that people need to stop looking at their previous education and start looking at who they are as a person and what they are going to do for our country, not where they are going to hang their Harvard diploma.

Maybe just a fluke

For many in the chicago area, seeing the Bears beat the Colts on the road was the best thing they had seen in a few years. Almost all of Chicago thought that the Bears were back and that we were super bowl bound. But after yesterdays performance, I am not so sure any more.
Once again the defense showed up but this time Kyle Orton just could not perform on the spot. On a crucial 3rd and 1, Orton audibled from a run up the middle, to a screen pass that almost got intercepted. Not only this but earlier in the game, Orton had Marty Booker wide open for what would of been a touch down, but instead, he over threw him by 5 yards.
The fact of the matter is that the bears still do not have a quarter back. Over all the years, the bears have always had one problem, quarter back. And when we had a good quarter back, we won the super bowl. To bad he got hurt every year other than that. I belive that until we get quarter back who can consistently get a 90 or above passer rating, we will never win the super bowl.

The pitbull with lipstick
Sarah Palin is the governor of Alaska and the soon to be Vice President of the United States. But what people dont know is that she will get a she will get a percentage of the vote that has never been considered before; the house wife vote. Many think that Sarah Palin is just a leader, but she is so much more that that. In her life, she has not only been mayor, she has been a PTA member, a hockey mom, and and special ed mother. So much has been done in her sted that I believe that the Vice Presidential fan favorite will be a lock. I also believe that this will give McCain a big bump in the polls and that he will end up victorious in the 2008 election.
